Tide Valve OperationThe City of Newport Beach operates, maintains and cleans 89 tide valves that are used to prevent high tides from entering the storm drain system and flooding low-lying parts of the City. City staff manually open and close the tide valves when a tide reaches a certain level. At times, however, when tide valves are closed, inclement weather causes unpreventable flooding of low-lying City streets.
